Journal Cover.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

If you've been around you will know that I have been playing with fabrics and I am here to show you how I have used one of them in this project.
This is my DT sample for this month's challenge at The Mirror Crack'd.

My Journal cover is finished Lol!
Well the front anyway!
Here it is and hope you like it.

If you would like to know how I completed this project I have included a tutorial but it is rather long so I apologise in advance.
It's up to you should you to choose whether you wish to accept the challenge of reading it Lol!
Happy Crafting.

I have been testing a range of different fabrics including, Tyvek, net, lace, polyester organza and acetate lining fabrics.

I have used Tyvek plus stencils, texture pastes and a few other bits and pieces to decorate this journal cover.

Here is the original journal, not very exciting to look at.

I started by covering the front with torn tissue paper.

Next added the Ist stencil -

And the 2nd stencil -

The next stage was to start adding the colour.

I started with an acrylic paint and then added a texture paste containing glass beads.
I used this between the stencilling to complete the design.
You can just see the beads shining on the surface.

Next I added the sprays, some of these have mica added which gives a gorgeous iridescent shine.

I quite liked the colours at this stage but more to add yet.

I continued building up the colour and finished this by rubbing over various colours of Treasure Gold.

For the focal point I decided to add a clock face (Tando Creative)which I covered with Gesso then Crackle Glaze and the Texture Paste. When this was dry I rubbed over with a selection of Treasure Gold as shown below.

I also decided to add a metal finding and treated this in a similar way by adding the Treasure Gold.

I had already prepared some Tyvek.
Some of you may remember me doing these tests last month.
If you would like to see this I have included a link back to the post.

I trimmed the Tyvek slightly and included some machine sewing before adding it to the journal cover.
Once everything was ready, I began putting it together with the addition of a few other fabrics and embellishments and here it is completed.

It took me quite some time to make this which is why you are not able to see the back, that will be a project for another time.

Thanks for stopping by.
Any comments will be gratefully accepted as long as they are nice ones LOl! and of course any questions, I will do my best to answer.

If you would like to see what my team members have made for this project then pop over to "the mirror crack'd".
If you choose to join in, the sponsor this month is Woodware.
They are giving away a prize of £12.00 to spend at your favourite Woodware stockist, either in store or online.

As this journal cover is actually incomplete I am entering it in the SanDee & Amelie's Steampunk Challenge "Unfinished Steampunk"

Hope to see you again soon.

Happy crafting,

Angela x

Hi Angela, What a fun journey in making this cover. I never thought to use Tyvek ON the page, I normally use it in making book bindings.
Thanks for sharing this idea and the process to make the cover......it's just gorgeous!!!

I am positively drooling at the texture going on here. I've been dithering about buying the glass bead texture stuff - you have just convinced me to get some. Gorgeous. Thanks for the step by step :)

Hello Angela,
Well I took up the Challenge and read the whole post, great step by step, you use you Tyvek very differently to me, but nevertheless the effect is fabulous in your Bg. Amazing texture and palette here.

Oh wow Angela, this is just stunning. Love it love it love it!!! Thanks for sharing the whole process. I love glass bead gel medium (I have the Golden brand one). It is absolutely fabulous laid thinly over silver mirror card... I have also used it for sea textures and sparkly starlit skies... so versatile. Have you tried the pumice one? That's awesome too!

Thanks for your lovely comment - I am sure I shall feel more settled, and hopefully get Mr. Mojo back, once we have more news. There are so many things I want to do! I am also feeling very exhausted at the moment and simply haven't got the energy to go in my ARTHaven but that's not surprising either.

Hi Angela,
I love everything about your journal cover. The colours, the textures, the whole thing. I had glass bead gel ages ago but because I didn't use it very often it went solid! That's what comes of saving all my "good" stuff :)

:)

a wonderful cover and great composition! I like it espacially, that it isn´t overloaded with to much symbols, text or mixed metaphors.
The background has his own story to tell and this in great color nuances.

Warm regards
Senna
