Friday Fun Day.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.
I wasn't sure I would have anything to show you as I was out all day yesterday at the NEC Craft Show.
However I took this photograph and thought you might like it.

As you can see this is a Christmas tree.

I wonder if you can guess how it was made?

The close-up may give you a clue.

It's all knitted!
And here is the fairy, still busy with her knitting Lol!

Quite an amazing piece, I'm sure you will agree.

Alison Murray, the imaginative and talented Devon based textile designer, was inspired to create her first community knitting project in 2005 – an incredible 25ft Christmas tree, which involved 1,000 people and took nine months to knit and two months to stitch together. Since then the tree has raised £13,000 for the North Devon Hospice, plus money for Cancer Research UK, Save the Children, The North Air Ambulance, St Oswald's Hospice for Children and the Dorothy Rundle Trust… and travelled to Newcastle, Birmingham, Scotland and various venues throughout Devon.

It's on show at the Nec at the moment.

So that was my fun day for this week.

And if you would like some more smiles you just need to pop over to see what our other friends have been doing this week at Annie's for
"This Week's Smiles" and you can also share your  smiles too if you like.

Thanks for stopping by,

Angela x

How amazing is that. I did chuckle at Nikki's comment and love the thought of an odd sock tree. I used to have a bag full of odd socks but it got thrown out when we moved house lol.
Have a great week.

What an amazing project! Do you think they take it apart afterwards and send the jumpers/socks etc to, say, an orphanage in Rumania? I really really like that idea.
Thanks for sharing that.
Happy Friday!

Hi Angela,

I could tell it was knitting of some sort - not sure if they are scarves or socks. Wouldn't it be cool to give the scarves away once the season was done?

It's great that it's made so much money for great charities and good causes.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Hugs,
Kay

Amazing, Angela! I am hoping my hubby will take me to the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey again this Christmas, to see the singing Christmas tree - it also dances, and is a lot less tasteful than the knitted one but it always makes me laugh! If we go, I'll get some photos.

I am very envious. I used to love the NEC show and went every Spring and Autumn until I moved out to Spain. That tree is amazing. I can't imagine where they started the sewing together! Wonderful to have helped so many charities though. Thanks for sharing it. Kate x
