Here we are again for another challenge at The Mirror Crack'd and this month it's Water.
It can be anything really as long as water is involved.

Instead of a physical prize this month we would like to offer our Winner a Guest Designer spot for a future challenge so hope you will pop over and see what the Design Team have made this month to inspire you.

So here is my interpretation of this month's theme.

I started this canvas some weeks ago at a class run by Ali-Craft Workshops and it has been sat in my studio waiting to be completed. When Lin decided that this month's theme would be water, I knew how I wanted to complete it and here it is:

You may remember it looking like this. 

The photograph was taken at the workshop. I liked it but still felt something was missing. 

It was difficult to decide which way round it should be and the design seemed to be a bit Topsy-Turvy, I must have turned it round several times before deciding but with what I chose to do it really doesn't matter.

I have used a number of stencils to create the detail:

And Treasure Gold to accentuate the details, gorgeous yummy colours and the best ever gilding wax!

The Mirror Crack'd Challenge.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

Just before I get started a little sneaky look at what I have made this month........

So here we are again for another challenge at The Mirror Crack'd and this month it's Tic Tac Toe with a particular interest in Wall Hangings but there's lots of choice this month so hope you will pop over and take a look.

And here is the wall-hanging I have made.

 

I chose Halloween from the Tic Tac Toe + Black and It Flies and this is what I made using Graphic 45 Rare Oddities papers and a pumpkin pattern I found on the Internet, there are plenty of free papers and patterns available.

 

I started by printing three of these in different sizes so that I could use them for layering the sections.

 

 

 

Then used the pattern to draw round and cut out the sections.

 

 

Next started to attach the first layers to the background and lay this onto another piece of black card. 

 

 

 

When drawing round the outer shape I allowed an extra 5mm then cut this out which gives a nice edge to the pumpkin and also more strength to the finished piece.

Then cut out more sections which were shaped with a ball tool and mounted with 3D stickers.

I used a blending tool and black ink to edge the patterned paper sections before mounting them.

 

 

This is a relatively easy project and from here on it was just a matter of choosing the papers for the various sections, shaping them and mounting.

 

•  I used various dies to create cobwebs, a spider and the cat.
•  I glazed some sections to help them stand out better.
• Used some black webbing around the edge and under some of the sections as this looked a little like cobwebs.
• The hanger is made from Speaker Cable (available at DIY shops), copper wire and black elastic cord strung together and hung from metal hangers.
• The MDF bats are from one of my favourite stores and the Rare Oddities papers are available there too.  That Craft Place.

The Mirror Crack'd, Art Shrines.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.
Here we are again for another challenge at The Mirror Crack'd and this month it's Tic Tac Toe with a particular interest in Art Shrines.

Instead of a physical prize this month we would like to offer our Winner a Guest Designer spot for a future challenge.

 I have chosen to make a shrine for this challenge.
A shrine is usually a case or chest, sometimes dedicated to the dead and can hold relics, mementos, treasures and items that are important to people. Some countries have portable shrines and that's how the Art Shrine came about. They are rather like a small shadow box.

So here is the one that I've been making and hope you like it:

This is what it looks like constructed.

 

I love these little shrines and I get them from That Craft Place.

 

And this is how I constructed it.

 

Glued it all together first.

 

Then painted over it with Gesso to seal the wood.

 And then I began adding the texture.
I used a Tim Holtz stencil for this and Viva Modelling Cream.
I like this cream, if you heat it after application it starts to swell up and bubble producing lovely texture as you can see below.

 

Here you can see the back before I heated it and it would stay smooth like that if you allowed it to dry naturally.

 

 But of course we can't have that so here it is after being heated.

 Next I painted over the texture.

 

And with the addition of a little more texture in the form of tissue paper which I added on the side sections it was ready to be painted.

After this stage we are ready to add the embellishments .

These were made using Mod Podge melts and moulds.

The wings here are also from That Craft Place.
The stamp is one I have had for a long time and is by Invoke Stamps.

 

With the addition of more moulded embellishments, a small metal tag and some painted cotton reels used as stands... we're finished!

Here we are again for another challenge at The Mirror Crack'd and this month it's to decorate a Canvas.

Hope you like mine........ I have named it:
 

Beyond Time.

 

Instead of a physical prize this month we would like to offer our Winner a Guest Designer spot for a future challenge.

 

So here we go.......

I started by covering the canvas with Gesso and then applied some Tim Holtz tissue paper which I screwed up to produce texture and glued this down.

Next I added some grunge paste through a stencil and covered parts of it with embossing powder and heated this. I allowed everything to dry and then applied a thin covering of stain to the canvas and then attached some embellishments, including cogs, frame, birds, pen nibs etc.

These were allowed to dry before adding more gesso to seal everything and then further paint can be applied.


Once this was dry I added some Treasure Gold which makes the detail pop out.
I also screwed in a door pull at the top.

And here is the finished Canvas.

The Mirror Crack'd Challenge # 8 - Make and Use a Masterboard

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

Here we are again for another challenge at The Mirror Crack'd and this month it's Make and Use a Masterboard(but not cards please).

Lin has asked me to host this month's challenge which is perfect for me as I love making Masterboards as some of you will already know.

This is what I came up with.
The Masterboard was created using various masks, stencils and stamps with the addition of tissue paper.

I started by placing one of the Tim Holtz masks onto the paper and then applying ink with a blender.
I continued adding colour over the paper until it was covered with ink and allowed it to dry.

Once this was complete I used stencils and stamps to decorate the surface.
I used black ink for this often softening the effect by applying the second or third press of the stamp.
I added the tissue paper by first scrunching it up and then applying glue directly to the masterboard and smoothing the tissue paper in place as I went along.
I continued to add detail until satisfied and soon it was ready to be used to decorate the chosen product.

In this case I chose to use my Masterboard to decorate a Mini Wallet Book.

I changed the inner pages but as you will see you can vary this to suit yourself.

I started by decorating the outer part of the wallet with a Crafters Workshop template and texture paste.

I prepared several pieces of red card for the layering and rubbed over the edges with Black distress ink using a blending tool.

And then began cutting the Masterboard pieces to size.

I distressed the edges before mounting them onto red card and then  attached them to the black pages.

I also wanted to add some other images to this and decided to use some Stampotique stamps to create them. I add colour using one of my new Chameleon pens.

Here is what I did:

Later I glazed parts of the stamped images and also added stickles glue to them.

 These are just a few of the stamped images and I will show you more in the completed book.

Sure you don't want to see me sticking it all together so...

Here it is, all finished!!!

I have to warn you there are lots of photographs but then there are lots of pages Lol!

So here we go...

I have used several makes of stamps to create this wallet book but the main images are by Stampotique.

The camera stamp was free with Craft Stamper magazine.

Pocket pages for the ATCs.
