Masterboard Monday.

Hi everyone, Angela here and I have been playing with a rather old technique which many of you may have used when you were at school. This technique is so simple and colours card or paper really quickly, all you need to do is choose the colours you want to use from Art Tissue Paper. This must be Art tissue paper as the type you buy for wrapping gifts is colour fast and we want the colour to run.

This example is the one I used on my frame for That Craft Place challenge last week and you can see it here.

For this first sample I chose a collection of three colours.
Choosing three colours usually works well or a Monochrome colour palette is good but you could do multi coloured designs, just go for it and have a play.

I usually do this on A3 stiff paper or card as it stands up better to the moisture.

• Rip up the tissue or it can be punched out if you prefer more regular shapes.

• Spray the paper or card lightly and lay the tissue paper on top, it gives a better coverage if you overlap these slightly.

• Now spray a little more water over the top and lay on another sheet of paper or card and leave to dry.
• Now remove the top layer of paper and gently lift away the tissue paper revealing the colour.
• The tissue paper can be kept and used for other projects.

• At this stage I like to stamp onto the coloured paper but you may have other ideas too. I used stamps from the Lynne Perrella range by Paper Artsy.

Remember this is a background paper so we don't want to make the design too lively as it will more than likely have a focal image or a larger design on top, it's meant to be a background paper or you can cut it up and use it in other ways too but that's for another project.

So here are more samples of this technique.
This time I used a die to cut the tissue paper and then continued with process.

 

This one was just ripped into long strips.

 

Now all I have to do is decide how to use these!

That Craft Place Challenge needs a Masterboard.

For this project we have been asked to use the Theme of Mixed Media Anything Goes!
So can't go wrong there!
And here is my project.

I have used one of the MDF frames that Lisa sells at
That Craft Place shop and also at the Facebook page and it is gorgeous.

So here is how I made it and of course I started by making a Masterboard!

• First start by making the Masterboard using a sheet of A3 cartridge paper as it needs to be quite strong (you could use card too).
• I coloured the cartridge paper using a very old technique I often used with children.
• Rip up several sheets of coloured tissue paper ( got mine from Lisa at That Craft Place).
• Spray the cartridge paper lightly with water and lay the tissue paper on top (this must be art tissue paper which is not colour fast).
• I usually spray again over the top and lay another sheet of cartridge over it so you end up with two coloured masterboards.

 

This is what you can expect to get.

 

And here is one I have stamped onto using distress inks and several Lynne Perrella stamps.

 

Next choose a stamp for the main image and heat emboss this on quality stamping card.

I have used a Lynne Perrella stamp for this: (LPC028)

 

And the next bit...

I could apologise for all these photos but I'm not going to Lol!!!

 

Take the oval back piece, place it, draw round it.

 

 

Then cut it out.

 

Stamp the image again, this time onto the  Masterboard and heat emboss.

By doing this it makes it easier when cutting out the image stamped on the white card as you do not need to try and cut round the small sections like the earrings.

 

 

I coloured the image stamped on white card with alcohol pens and cut round the solid areas and attached it to the Masterboard. The small orange squares at the top were added and then Stickles glues and 3D glazes to the face to bring out the detail.

 

 

Next start with the frame (gorgeous frame from Lisa at That Craft Place), gradually building up the texture using Grunge paste.

 

 

The stencil for this was also from
That Craft Place .

 

 

And here is the frame ready for the next stage.

To do this I covered the frame in black Gesso and then rubbed on various colours of Treasure Gold, Lisa sells this too.

It's probably easier to say what she doesn't sell as she stocks loads of stuff.

 

 

Now for the fun part, putting it all together.

I kept on looking at this and just couldn't decide what was missing but it just needed something else...

 

 

So I added some gems around the frame and liked it better, hope you do too.

(I probably should say "Spot the Difference" at this stage).

 

 

Here you can see the texture on the frame more clearly though unfortunately not the Stickles but they are there!.
