Crafty Cardmakers - 255 Anything but a Card.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.
Hi! back again to tell you that it's time for another challenge over
at Crafty Cardmakers.

Angela, that's me and I'm hosting today and our challenge is Anything but a card.

As usual you can enter anything you fancy but this time definitely no cards.

Hope you will join in.
And here is my project for the challenge:

I made this using an old tube box which originally contained a Reed Diffuser.
It had been sat around for some time waiting for me to get the inspiration to make into something, well here goes.

I make no apologies but this is a long post so you may want a cuppa before you start.

I began by attaching some netting from my oranges stretching them to create varying shapes.
I used Prima Heavy body Gel to attach this and then applied some crackle paste too and yes it looks quite awful at this stage

Next I added some ammonites that I had made earlier with moulds and paper clay.

The moulds are new and by Powertex.
Think these may get lots of use.

Once they had settled I added some Prima Art stones, small and medium sizes.

I know what you're thinking, this looks like a right old mess but just be patient it will be worth it.

I've also moulded some moths and added those.

Once they are all set it was time to add the Gesso.

Apply a good coat all over the tube and leave it to dry.

These are the colours I chose to start with.

I took one of them and applied it all over the tube.

Maybe it doesn't look quite so messy now.

More colour and wax to complete the design.
Couldn't resist an industrial rusty finish giving that worn look to it.

That was fun but did you like it?

All comments much appreciated.

I hope you will pop over to see what the rest of the DT have been up to and maybe join in the challenge.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with too.
 Happy crafty card making.

This is so amazing, Angela - I'm so happy you shared all those close-ups of the process and of the finished piece. The colours are so beautiful, and I love the burnished rust as a finishing layer. The natural organic shapes of the ammonites and the insects are glorious amongst the treasures and textures. Really love this - and so happy I I had the chance to do some proper catching up today to see it.

That tube box is stunning, Ang...it reminds me of the altered wine bottles that obsessed me a few years ago, and now I'm wondering whether I should start again. Of course that would mean drinking more wine. :D I LOVE this project...the texture and colour is outstanding!!!
