Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.
Angela here again to show you what I've been up to this week and a couple of weeks ago too.Just a few more photos from our trip to Matlock Bath.
This time our visit to Cromford Mill.
Part of the building that was the Mill and the water which comes down from the hills to drive the wheels that would have created the power to run the machines.
Click the arrow and watch the wheel.
If you don't know about Sir Richard Arkwright (23 Dec 1732 - 3 Aug 1792) he was an English inventor and a leading entrepreneur during the early Industrial
Revolution.
He was the founder of this factory.
Cromford Mill is a water powered Cotton Mill that acts as the Northern Gateway to the Derwent Valley mills UNESCO World Heritage sitre. The building is seen as the birthplace of the modern factory system and was set up in the 1770s.
The site was rescued from demolition in the 1970s by the Arkwright society and volunteers and supporters worked to re-invent the Mills as a centre for heritage, education and busineess support.
It had been taken over by a paint company before this so all the original machinery had already gone but
they have managed to obtain some from other places to give a feeling of how it would have been.
Some cotton came from Egypt but other countries too.
There's lots of information about Arkwright as you go round.
There were many of the business men who didn't like him because he was a self-made man and considered him rather common because of the way he dressed and spoke however he earned so much money that he had enough to pay off the national debt at the time.
Carders so you can have a go if you want to.
I love this place and it's well worth a visit.
Knitting machine.
If that's not enough you can do some shopping here too.
This was one of my favourite shops but I need to use up what I've got first!
It was an Aladdins cave for anyone who loves knitting and sewing.
Most of my time this week has been spent gardening.
But at least the weather has been good.
And we're getting there.
Just a little something to make you smile before I go.
I don't know who's most comfy here but Daisy knows who to cuddle up with and poor Alfie gets pushed out of the way if necessary!
Luckily he knows his place.
Have a great weekend everyone and
thanks for stopping by.
"This Week's Smiles" and you can also share your smiles too.

Sounds like a very interesting visit. And wow - you really managed to not buy anything? Respect! Have a smiley Friday, xXx
What an interesting place! I would have loved to see that. And of course the shop is a real bonus. How did you manage not to buy anything? I would always have to buy something, even if it is just a fridge magnet. Well done you for have that sort of self discipline.
Enjoy your weekend,
Lisca
What a fascinating place to visit, Angela, although you must know that my love of colour has me drooling over all the amazing embroidery threads. Oooooh la la! :D
