Hi Workdesk friends. 
Here we are for another Wednesday at the Workdesk. 
I am here again to show you:
"What's on my Workdesk this Wednesday".

So here is my desk for today!

 

Working on another Shrine which you can see in the middle of the desk and still not quite finished the box journal that I started on the retreat but keep doing a bit.
Some new dies tucked towards the back are Tim Holtz new gears.
That's really all that is different.
The desk looks a bit too tidy for my liking Lol! so better get making a mess!

 

So that's it for today, nice and quick just how the boss likes it.

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge # 162.

Hi all, I'm here today to show you my new project for the challenge at Crafty Cardmakers.

So here's what I made for the challenge:

 

 

 

We were asked to use:

1. Image is a flower stamp by Visible Image which I then heat  

    embossed.

2. Papers are by Papermania.

3. Embellishments were ribbon, cord and gems.

 

And here is a close-up of the stamped images.

The dies are by Tim Holtz and Spellbinders.

The card blank is Craft card.

Friday Fun Day with Smiles 165.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

 

You may remember last week I showed you my bags all ready to go to the craft retreat. I can tell you it gave me plenty to smile about as it was a brilliant weekend.

As I have been away all weekend at the craft retreat I thought you might be more interested in seeing what my desk looked like while I was there so here it is.

 

I made quite a few things over the three days including.

On Friday a figure and a ball with Powertex liquid.

 

 

On the Saturday we used canvases to create a Triptych.

 

 

 On Sunday we worked with Graphic 45 papers to create a box journal.

 

I know that Julia prefers a quick post so I am not going into lots of details as I have posts HERE and Here which show more photographs if you are interested.

Express your Personal Style.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

Hi all this post follows my last visit to Calico Crafts blog who have a Design Team Call at the moment.
I was reading their request for entrants to show work that demonstrated their style.
That got me thinking about what I considered to be my own style and whether my work does actually reflect what I think it is.
It's a difficult question, maybe other people are in a better position to answer this but here goes anyway.

It set me on a route to find samples of my work that I felt reflects what I believe my style is.

I absolutely love mixed media, using fabric which is my original background having taught Textiles and Art for over 30 years, rummaging around DIY shops and antique stores to find artefacts which I can use in my projects and all the crafty stuff in between then mixing them up.

I am a glutton for techniques, old and new. I have to admit that I flit from one to the other as I often think of different techniques I could use whilst making something else so always have an idea in mind for the next project before I've finished the current one. 

So examples:
Love this canvas as I really mixed it up here with the Paper Mache mask, polystyrene ball, pieces of MDF and lots of spraying.

 

And this one really made me happy too. Another Paper Mache figure to start with, Tim Holts dies to cut the cogs and silver adhesive foil to cover it. The foil was covered in black paint which was then partly rubbed off to give a vintage feel.

The dragonflies where die cut from rainbow card and waste plastic from some packaging then embossed and attached to create the 3D effect.

 

 

Some of you may remember this one as it was featured in The Craft Stamper Magazine. I had great fun with the techniques on this one using crackle paints, texture mediums, fabrics, guilding waxes, stamping, stencils and lots of MDF.

 

 

 

I looked through all my samples in the hope of finding "My Style" and although these are three quite different pieces I believe they show my love of mixed media and the way I like to combine a variety of materials and techniques.

Craft Retreat with Ali and Ian.

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.
I know it's Monday and you may have been expecting a Masterboard but I've been away all weekend at a Craft Retreat which some of you already know so today I'm here to show you what I've been up to.

Saturday we were working on three canvases. I chose to make a Triptych though some people only used one or two of the canvases.
I had an idea in mind of how I wanted it to look so got straight down to it. I tend to think that if you are making a Triptych you really need to have a plan before you start.

So here is the result.

Here we all are at the start of the second day.

And the stages in making:

 

The fabric is soaked well in the Powertex liquid before being applied to the canvas and then the whole thing is painted thoroughly with a coat of the liquid.

You can see here that I have also added pieces of lace, small ceramic balls, net, cord and MDF circles.

 

And a close-up of the three pieces.

 

Everyone found their own way to use the techniques and here are a few examples.

 

Once the Powertex was dry it was time to start adding the colour.

This could be done in a number of ways but I chose to use colour sprays on mine.

 

My choice of colours is normally quite somber so this time decided to brighten things up a bit.

 

Not sure you can tell but I also added some clear gems in different sizes using cosmic shimmer glue to attach them which dries clear so the colours show through, gorgeous.

You can probably see it better here.

 

Each piece works well on it's own as well as a group and they can be turned to change the design.

 

Next I added Treasure Gold with a brush to highlight the relief.

To complete the design I brushed on Treasure Gold around the edge and splattered on some white paint to add a little more interest to the overall design. I also felt that this helped with the continuity of the three canvases.

 

And here they are once again completed.
