Birthday Card Ideas

Welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

Just a quick post to show you a Birthday Card made for a male friend. Love these dies with the embossing folder. 

Tim Holtz die, Birthday Blueprint with stamp to create the focal point.
The simple and very quick background was created using the Mini Blueprints 4 CMS 154.

I stamped the large cup cake onto the card blank and onto a separate piece of card which was coloured and die out.
This was attached to the completed background and gold stickles glue added to the flame.
It's not easy to see but I also added a glaze to the case and cream sections to give it a bit of depth.
You could cut out and add more layers but I need to post it so didn't want it too thick.



 

This is definitely a quick card but quite like it, hope you do too.

Masterboard, Saturday Swap.

I made this with various distress inks, stamping and heat embossing.

Masterboard #Christmas Card Ideas.

Been combining some of the Masterboards for this card.

 

You may think it looks familiar as I published a similar card earlier and here it is.

The new one is mounted differently but otherwise they are very similar apart from the use of a grey section.

Quite like the change but what do you think?

WOYWW # 286 What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Still busy with Christmas cards though I have done a few other projects too.

So here is my desk this week.

So many things on the go at the moment which is why the desk looks so cluttered.

 

Some of you asked to see  my crows, so here they are.

 

Mini Me is tucked in at the back, he's not impressed as he has not been walkabout for a while.

 One of my old Mini Books.

Got it out as I am making another and needed a bit of inspiration.

 

 

So that's it for me really.

Masterboard Monday # Christmas Card Ideas.

Hi blogging friends,   Angela here to show you this week's Christmas cards.

Just a reminder, here is the Masterboard I used for these cards.

 

I am trying to use up some small pieces as in the card below.

Think the red stamping works well with the grey Masterboard and the die cut snowflake brightens it up.

 

I applied some stickles glue in red around the grey trees.

 

On the next piece I have added the stamped lady again.

This was done on black card with clear embossing powder and then coloured with mica paints which gives it a lovely shiny finish.

 

 I completed this by layering a piece of acetate over the top.

I'm now up to the stage where I have small pieces of several Masterboards and rather than waste them, I will be combining some of them in my next samples.

All Sewn Up.

Hi Blogging Friends I'm All Sewn Up for A Vintage journey this week.

I was completely thrilled when I was asked to be a Guest Creative Guide at A Vintage Journey for their current Challenge 19 "All Sewn Up".
Our lovely hostess Brenda Brown has chosen our challenge and I highly recommend that you pop over to check out the wonderful projects that the highly talented design team have come up with.
I feel very honoured to be working with them.

When the team from A Vintage Journey asked me to be a Guest Creative Guide, I was so excited especially when they said that the theme would be "All Sewn Up" how could an ex. Textiles teacher say no to that Lol! So I hope you enjoy what I've made.

For some time now I have been looking for a project to use some of the Tim Holtz fabrics.

I started with one of the Design Rolls to create a patchwork effect around the edge and gradually the project developed.

It began here:

After making this section I decided it needed a background to sit on and took one of the Tim Holtz Masks to sponge through (Latticework) with Silks.

I did this fairly randomly to give a Shabby Chic effect and this is how it looked at this stage.

 

I used a cotton Calico for this effect and started by sealing it with Gesso. As the cotton is very absorbent, sealing it first uses less paint.

 

Sorry about the jar Lol! but it gets a lot of use.

 

The fabric on the left is before application and the one on the right is after.

 

 

 

I then turned to what would be the top of the banner.

 

Another piece of Tim's fabric and the die was an obvious choice, "The Sewing Room", perfect.

 

The die was cut three times in Calico, felt and wadding which would be used to pad out the mannequin.

 

The next stage was to start putting the whole thing together with the addition of some Text from the Word Play Alphabet die and some extra embellishments in the form of Gadget Gears die and Weathered Clock, cut in felt.

 

With a few other bits and pieces and quite a bit of hand and machine sewing and what do you know, it's "All Sewn Up".

 

 

Just in case you were wondering how I finished the top to thread the cord through, here it is....

 

An old cardboard tube Lol! but it gives the top a lovely shape.

And here is the finished piece again.

WOYWW 285 # What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Back again for another Wednesday.

Here you can see my desk, still busy with Christmas cards.
I have been managing to make about five each week for about the last five weeks but still have a few to go.

Good job you are not looking behind me or to the side as the room is not very tidy at the moment and I will be pleased when I have finished the cards and can have a good tidy up and get back to other stuff though I have managed to make a few different things at the same time, as some of you will be aware.

Anyway here is my desk for this week.

Before you say anything, I know it's a mess at the moment Lol!
Nice view though along the top showing some of my little friends including Boiler Plate Mini Me, he's not impressed as he's stuck behind the spare hand and several stamps so has been unable to go walkabout for a while.
Several dies, all Christmas stuff except for the cardboard tubes, they are waiting to be recycled but that's for another day.

 

The card you can see is different from what I have been doing recently as it is made using printed papers.

I promised to make one of these box cards for a friend but it's not quite finished yet.

 

I hadn't finished it but I have now so here it is!

Masterboard Monday # Christmas Card Ideas.

Hi to all my blogging friends,  Angela here to show you this week's Christmas cards.

Just a reminder, here is the Masterboard I used for these cards.

 

When making the first card I felt that the Masterboard was quite dark so decided to add a topper with more colour.

I had made these toppers some time ago, they are stamped using a

"Non Sequitur" Stamp and painted with US Art Quest Mica paints.

I have always loved this stamp, she is so gorgeous.

 

 

As I have layered a sheet of acetate over the top the stamped image is not so easy to see so here is a close-up showing the image more clearly.

 

 

 

 Another card using the stamp again painted with a different set of colours.

 

Hope you have enjoyed looking and if you pop back later in the week I will have more samples to show you.

You may have noticed that I have not posted a new Masterboard as usual, there is a reason for this!
I now have several small pieces of left-over Masterboards and I am going to spend some time using these up to create my next batch of Christmas cards.
I may combine some of these to create something a bit different, you will just have to pop back to see how I get on.

Masterboard #Christmas Card Ideas.

Hi Blogger friends, here are the last of this week's Christmas cards.

Just a reminder, here is the Masterboard from last week:

 

The cards I am showing you today are slightly smaller.

Up to now I have been using 6" x 6" card blanks but these are 5" x 5" so slightly smaller and useful for using up left over bits of Masterboard.

This card is ideal if you are not very good at attaching things evenly. I have deliberately placed the three sections at a quirky angle just to see if it would work. After attaching the sentiment I overlaid the snowflake printed acetate.

 

Here is another quite simple card, mounted on red and black card and finished with the snowflake On the Edge die, a narrow strip of acetate and stickles glue. I would normally ink a ripped edge but left this one as I think it works with the white sentiment label.

Masterboard Christmas Card Ideas.

And high to all my  blogging friends,  Angela here to show you a few more of this week's Masterboard Christmas cards.
Hope you like them.

• For the first one I have used the tree stamp to decorate the edge of the card blank, in red with distress ink.
• A small section of the Masterboard was mounted onto red card and layered onto gold Mirri board. The star brads were added and a small section of, On the Edge, 'Snow Flurries' across the middle, gold stickles completes the topper.
• I had some printed acetate which was cut to the size of the card.The acetate was attached with double sided tape and the topper covers this when attached in the same way.

 

This close-up shows the detail of the card.

 

The second card uses a larger section of the Masterboard onto red card, mounted on the gold with acetate attached with the small star brads and then glued to the card blank.

You may be able to see that I have also applied red ink around the edge of the card blank softening the white card.

Hardening compound. Powertex.

A big welcome to all my new followers, hope you enjoy the journey.

And for all my dear Blogging Friends,
Just a small sample so far using the fabric hardener, Powertex that I mentioned on Wednesday.

The only disadvantage with this is that you can get a bit messy and it does stick to fibres and fabrics and that includes brushes which must be kept in water when not in use, if you wash it off quickly you can remove it.
An apron and gloves are a good idea.
Anyway here is my first sample which uses a piece of curtaining fabric and a plaster head, plus the hardener, glue, paint brush, plastic plate and pigment colours.

• First you need to begin by pouring a very small amount of the hardener into a plastic plate, (say three tablespoons) and then thoroughly cover the chosen fabric, ring this out occasionally until it is completely covered.
• Next paint the underside of the plaster head or other object and place it on top of the fabric. Arrange the fabric into a pleasing shape and using a little more of the hardener, paint the face with it.

You have about an hour to play around with the arrangement after which time the hardener will start to set though it is not completely solid for about three days.

• When the fabric is fairly firm it is time to add the colour.
• Place a little of the glue onto a craft mat and dip the brush in it and then into the pigment and mix it together, a little white pigment can be used to lighten the colours.
• Apply the colour to the fabric by dry brushing and finish with a little metallic colour if wished to make the colours stand out.

All you need to do now is leave the fabric to harden. It should then be waterproof too, though you can always add extra varnish to protect it particularly if it will be displayed outside.

The hardener I have used is Bronze but it is available in other colours too.

WOYWW 284 # What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Last week was manic for me and I have only just really got round to unpacking my bag of goodies that I got from the Hobbycraft Show at the NEC so here they are.

 

I have a variety of new stamps by Lavinia Stamps, Tim Holtz, Dina Wakley, Visible Image and JustRite Papercrafts.

 

 

I also have some metal embellishments by Tim Holtz.

I was really looking for something a bit different and this show is good for that as there is a good mixture of companies selling Papercrafting, Textiles and Fine Art materials.
As mentioned above, I have some new stamps but I also bought a kit from PowerTex which is a fabric hardener.

I will be posting a sample of what I've made so far before the end of the week.

Looking forward to trying this out with a variety of materials.
Apparently the company are intending to distribute this nationally in the UK but there may well be some of you who are already familiar with it in other countries.

Now I must clear all this away and get back to the crafting and you must go off and visit my WOYWW friends.
